About NCVET
National Council for Vocational Education and Training
The primary objective of NCVET is to ensure strong industry interfacing and implement effective regulations that enhance the quality and outcomes of vocational education and training. It is responsible for the development, qualitative improvement, and regulation of vocational education and training systems. Additionally, NCVET grants recognition to and monitors the functioning of awarding bodies, assessment agencies, and skill information providers. It also performs other incidental functions as specified in its resolution.
NCVET’s mission is to integrate the fragmented regulatory system and infuse quality assurance across the entire vocational education, training, and skilling value chain. By doing so, it aims to facilitate the availability of highly skilled manpower, improving employability and contributing to the accelerated growth of the Indian economy.

Mandates of NCVET
- Recognition and Regulation:
- Recognizing, disciplining, and de-recognizing Awarding Bodies (ABs), Assessment Agencies (AAs), and Skill-related Information Providers (SIPs).
- Establishing regulations and guidelines for Skill Universities as ABs and AAs in consultation with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE).
- Developing guidelines for indirect regulation of vocational training institutes through ABs.
- National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF):
- Anchoring the NSQF, a framework that organises qualifications based on levels of knowledge, skills, and competencies.
- Maintaining the National Qualification Register (NQR), which acts as a repository for all qualifications aligned to the NSQF.
- Approving NSQF-aligned qualifications and National Occupational Standards (NOSs) developed by ABs, including Sector Skill Councils (SSCs).
- Monitoring and Evaluation:
- Monitoring, evaluating, and supervising recognized entities, ensuring compliance with regulations and quality standards.
- Research and Information Dissemination:
- Conducting research in the field of vocational education and training, and disseminating relevant information to stakeholders.
- Grievance Redressal:
- Addressing grievances raised by various stakeholders related to vocational education and training.
In terms of composition, the council shall be headed by Chairperson, NCVET, it will have two Executive members and three Non – Executive members along with a Nominated member.
